Meet the team
Janina Cooper is the Co-Founder of The Base Skatepark. Janina spent a year building the park with the help of 414 and various other companies. Janina is a local resident of Bognor Regis and has lived here the majority of her life. Her two children were the inspiration for The Base Indoor Skatepark and with the help of her husband it became possible. Janina raised £160,000 through fundraising to get the park up and running. Janina has won many award since the start of The Base such as; 2015 Spirit FM Community Hero Award, 2015 Britten Award – Notable Services to Bognor Regis, 2nd place Boss of the Year 2015 and was Shortlisted for UK’s Social Enterprise of the year – Women’s Champion Award. Janina has also led The Base Skatepark to winning the National 2016 Placemaking Awards, becoming highly commended for Sussex Business Award 2015 – Most Promising New Business and won the 2016 Leisure and Tourism Award.
Benjamin Cooke is the Manager at The Base Skatepark and dedicates his work to improving the facilities for everyone to enjoy. Ben lives in Bognor Regis and grew up around sports, he then worked with SEN children at St Anthony’s and Little Green School, therefore has a background that allowed him to excel in his work. Ben works closely with the rest of the team to ensure that the company are doing their best to benefit the community, this involves working alongside other Council partnerships and agencies to maintain standards within the facility and enforcing any necessary schemes of work to improve young people’s lives within West Sussex.
Phil Barton joined the team in October 2016 and quickly fulfilled the role of Events Organiser and has recently been promoted to Assistant Manager. Phil works closely with other members of the team to organise events within the park and events that our visitors will enjoy. Phil also works closely with our volunteers ensuring that there is a system in place that will allow them to benefit from working for The Base Skatepark as a working initiative. Phil is also in charge of organising the Duke of Edinburgh activities within the park as well as working alongside schools to make the park available as a learning based objective.
